Arrival Β· Wednesday Β· ELA practice page at seats
9:20 Β· Work already at seats Β· Sheep timer counting down Β· Students begin immediately
9:20β9:40
Stand at the classroom door. Greet every student by name. Eye contact. Their name. Every student. Every day.
SAY to each student: "Good morning [name]! ELA practice page at seats is at your seat β go ahead and get started."
β SHEEP TIMER: Already counting down when students arrive. When it goes off β students should be at bumblebee spots already. Not walking there. Already there. If they are not β walk to your spot and begin without them. Students who miss it will not miss it again.
Another adult circulates β quiet check-ins β redirects off-task students without interrupting teacher greeting.

Phonics Focus
Short a β reading CVC words in context Β· Alphablocks + packet Β· The cat sat on the mat.Sheep timer β bumblebee spots β Wednesday greeting β Activity 1 β Activity 2 β sing to smartboard spots β morning message β letter sound cards β phonics lesson β brain break β math.
β WEDNESDAY β NO SLIDES: Alphablocks plays on smartboard. Another adult distributes phonics packets during the episode. Students complete packet at seats after watching. Timer is visible.
β ORDER β ALWAYS: Sheep timer β bumblebee spots β greeting β PA Activity 1 β PA Activity 2 β sing to smartboard spots β morning message β letter sound cards β phonics lesson β brain break β math. Same every day. Students knowing what comes next IS the behavior management.
Activity 1 on bumblebee spots β phonological awareness β 2 minutes.
SAY: "I am going to say a word. Tell me only the first sound. Just the first sound β not the whole word. Ready? [Say 6-8 words β mostly words starting with today's target sound, 2 distractors.] Thumbs up if you hear the /s/ sound at the beginning. Thumbs down if you don't."
Activity 2 on bumblebee spots β blending and segmenting β 2 minutes.
SAY: "Now I say the sounds separately β you blend them into a word. Ready? [Give 4-5 CVC words in separate phonemes.] Now reverse β I say the word, you tap the sounds on your fingers and tell me how many."
Sing to smartboard spots β morning message β letter sound cards β phonics lesson.
π΅ SING: "Smartboard spots, smartboard spots, find your smartboard spot!" Song is the signal β not your voice. Never your voice.
MORNING MESSAGE: "Today is Wednesday. We will watch Alphablocks and do our packet. Our snap word is [a, the]. Look at our schedule." [Point to every block on the posted schedule. Name each one out loud.]
Letter sound cards β 3 minutes β every card β every single day β non-negotiable. Hold up each card. Students call out the sound. No exceptions. Not even on test days. Not even on Halloween.
Phonics Lesson β Short a β reading CVC words in context Β· Alphablocks + packet Β· The cat sat on the mat.
Alphablocks β
SAY: "Today we are working on short a β reading cvc words in context. Watch me first β then you try. I will show you the whole thing before you start." [Model explicitly. Show the letter, say the sound, build a word, read the word. One complete example before students try anything.]
π§° WAIT TIME: After asking a question β count silently to 10 before calling on anyone. 10 seconds feels endless. It is the difference between 3 students answering and 22 students thinking.
Snap Word β "a, the" β introduce and add to the snap word wall.
SAY: [Snap fingers] "Snap word! The word is A, THE. Spell it with me β A β THE. Write it on your paper in the air. Write it again. One more time. We now have these snap words: a, the. You know all of them in a snap."
Add to snap word wall. Count the words on the wall together.
Brain break β 2 minutes β before math.
Imaginary objects β hold something very soft. Show us how carefully you hold it. Now hold something prickly. Now something wet. Show us on your face and your hands.

Math Β· Unit 1 Lesson 18 Β· Count to 10 β missing numbers Β· complete a number sequence with gaps
Hook bumblebee spots β mini lesson smartboard spots β seat work timer β 2 rotations Γ 20 min
~75 min
K.CC.A.2
Objective
Count to 10 β missing numbers Β· complete a number sequence with gapsHook on bumblebee spots β 3 minutes β spark curiosity β do NOT teach yet.
SAY: "Put linking cubes in a line β but leave gaps. '1, 2, 3, [gap], 5, 6, [gap], 8, 9, 10. Something is missing. Before we go to smartboard spots β count the cubes and figure out what's missing.'"
π΅ SING: "Smartboard spots, smartboard spots, find your smartboard spot!"
Mini lesson on smartboard spots β 8 minutes MAX β manipulatives β original script β no alien videos.
SAY: "'Look at our cube line β we have gaps. The number 4 is missing. How do I know? Because 3 comes before it and 5 comes after it β 4 has to go in between. That's how number lines work β each number has exactly one place it belongs.' Students complete missing number worksheets at seats. Each student has a number line with blanks to fill in."
π§° 8 MINUTE RULE: Hard cap on whole-group instruction. If more time is needed β take it at the teacher table during small groups. Extending whole group = more off-task behavior, not more learning.
Numberblocks β
Brain break (2 min) β seat work with visible timer (8 min) β groups.
SAY: "Timer starts now β 8 minutes. Finish your page. When you are done β flip it face down, both hands flat on the table. That tells me you are finished without a word."
β TIMER CONSEQUENCE: Timer goes off. Student not finished. Quiet private conversation: "What happened? Were you focused?" Consistent every time. That is what makes it real.
2 rotations Γ 20 minutes β 4 groups of approximately 5-6 students.
Teacher table: Students bring seat work. Work through problems with manipulatives β linking cubes, counters, barrel of monkeys. "Show me with the cubes first β then write the answer."
Adult 2 table: Same worksheet, same manipulatives, same quality of instruction.
Math shelf: Independent game for current unit. Students already know the routine.
SuccessMaker: Log in. Headphones on. Independent.
π§° NON-NEGOTIABLE: Math must finish before paraprofessional lunch β approximately 11:45. Cut seat work if needed. Math does not bleed into writing or shared reading time.
π§° ASKING FOR HELP: "I don't understand how to ____." That is the only acceptable form. "I don't get it" gets redirected every single time.

I will come around to talk to you about your writing. You have 15 minutes."

Guided Reading / Centers / Flex Block
1:40β2:05 Β· Pull whoever needs it most Β· Centers run simultaneously
~25 min
Pull the students who need the most support based on today's phonics lesson.
AT THE TABLE: "When you get to a word you don't know β stop. Look at the first letter. What sound? Look at the picture. Try the word. Don't skip it."
π§°: You do not need to pull every group every day. Pull who needs you. 8 focused minutes at this table beats 25 minutes of whole-group review every time.

"Hello families! Wednesday is our Alphablocks and phonics packet day β today we practiced reading short A words in sentences. Ask your child to read this to you: 'The cat sat on the mat.' In writing we added TWO labels to a drawing today. In math we found missing numbers on a number line. Ask them: 'What number comes between 6 and 8?' πΊ"
